About this archive

The Verse Archive is a reading room for roughly 14,000 poems drawn from the Poetry Foundation collection. Each poem is paired with metadata about its poet — nationality, heritage, and era — alongside the subject tags that travelled with the original publication.

The aim is simple: make the collection browsable as a library, not a feed. Pick a country, a heritage, an era, or a theme like Death, Love, or War & Conflict, and wander.

Nationality, heritage and era labels were inferred with the help of an AI model and may contain occasional inaccuracies, especially for lesser-known poets. Subject tags come directly from the source dataset.
